Regina - Can we do anything to keep our sun from growing old and eventually dying out?  Dr. Martin Beech believes that we can plan and create the technology needed to keep our sun shining and sustain life on Earth.  His new book, Rejuvenating the Sun: and Avoiding Other Global Catastrophes, calls us to action to prevent this global disaster and protect Earth from some of the more immediate threats such as global warming, asteroid and comet hits.

An associate professor of astronomy at Campion College, Beech is just one of six Campion College faculty members to present new publications at a special Regina book launch at Campion College.

"For a small liberal arts university college with only 23 full-time faculty members, six new publications is very exciting, and a great celebration of our 90th anniversary," says Campion College Dean Samira McCarthy.

"The range of topics and fields of study represented is a true example of the diversity of our faculty and educational opportunities provided by the college," McCarthy adds.

The other five publications are Cloud-Capped Towers.  The Utopian Theme in Saskatchewan History and Culture by Dr. Alex MacDonald, associate professor of English, Plato's Meno:  An Interpretation by Dr. Cristina Ionescu, assistant professor of philosophy & classics, The Pastoral Epistles; First Timothy, Second Timothy, Titus, Volume 12 in the Sacra Pagina Commentary Series by Dr. Benjamin Fiore, SJ, president and professor of religious studies, Dictionary of Literary Biography, Volume 334: Twenty-First Century Canadian Writers by Dr. Christian Riegel, associate professor of English, and Socrates: Reason or Unreason as the Foundation of European Identity by Dr. Ann Ward, assistant professor of political science and philosophy & classics.

Founded in 1917, Campion College was constituted under the name of "The Catholic College of Regina" and given power "to establish, maintain and conduct at the city of Regina a college and school where students may obtain a liberal education in the arts and sciences."

Today, Campion College boasts a faculty complement of 23 full-time professors, offering courses in the areas of astronomy, Catholic studies, classics, English, French, media studies, history, humanities, pastoral studies, philosophy, political science, psychology, religious studies and theatre studies.  Approximately 1,000 students at the University of Regina are enrolled through Campion College in the faculties of Arts, Science, and Fine Arts.
